FRAGILE | FRÁGIL | |
If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one | La sangre fluirá cuando se unan carne y acero.
Drying in the colour of the evening sun | Y tomará el color del sol de la tarde al secarse.
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away | La lluvia de mañana limpiará las manchas
But something in our minds will always stay | Pero algo quedará para siempre en nuestras mentes.
Perhaps this final act was meant | Quizá este acto final suponga
That nothing comes from violence | Que nada bueno viene de la violencia
And nothing ever could | Y nada nunca vendrá
For all those born beneath an angry star | Para todos aquellos nacidos bajo una estrella airada
Lest we forget how fragile we are | No vaya a ser que olvidemos cuán frágiles somos.
On and on the rain will fall | Una y otra vez la lluvia caerá
Like tears from a star | Como lágrimas de una estrella
Like tears from a star | Como lágrimas de una estrella
On and on the rain will say | Una y otra vez la lluvia dirá
How fragile we are | Cuán frágiles somos
How fragile we are | Cuán frágiles somos.
How fragile we are | Cuán frágiles somos |

CRUEL SISTER – THE PENTANGLE
HERMANA
CRUEL – THE PENTANGLE
There lived a lady by the
North Sea shore
(Lay the bent to the
bonnie broom)
(una
torcida contra una hermosa retama)
Two daughters were the
babes she bore
(Fa
la la la la la la la la la)
As one grew bright as in
the sun,
Una
creció brillante como el sol,
So coal black grew the
elder one.
Como
negro carbón creció la otra.
A knight came riding to
the lady's door,
He'd travelled far to be
their wooer.
Había
viajado desde lejos para ser su pretendiente.
He courted one with gloves
and rings,
Cortejó
a una con guantes y anillos,
But he loved the other
above all things.
Oh sister will you go with
me
Oh
hermana quieres venir conmigo
To watch the ships sail on
the sea?
Para
ver los barcos navegar en el mar?
She took her sister by the
hand
Ella
tomó a su hermana de la mano
And led her down to the
North Sea strand.
Y
And as they stood on the
windy shore
Y
mientras estaba en la playa ventosa
The dark girl threw her
sister oer.
La
muchacha morena lanzó su hermana.
Sometimes she sank, sometimes
she swam,
A
veces se hundía, a veces nadaba,
Crying, "Sister,
reach to me your hand!
Llorando,
"Hermana, extiéndeme tu mano!
"Oh Sister, Sister,
let me live,
"Oh
hermana, hermana, déjame vivir,
And all that's mine I'll
surely give."
Y
todo lo mío por supuesto te daré".
"It's your one true
love that I'll have and more,
"Es
su único y verdadero amor que voy a tener y más,
But thou shalt never come
ashore."
Pero
tú no te has de hallar en tierra. "
And there she floated like
a swan,
Y
ahí flotando como un cisne,
The salt sea bore her body
on.
La
sal del mar su cuerpo hacia flotar.
Two minstrels walked along
the strand
And saw the maiden float
to land.
Y
vieron flotando la doncella hacia la tierra.
They made a harp of her
breastbone,
Hicieron
un arpa de su esternón,
Whose sound would melt a
heart of stone.
Cuyo
sonido derretiría un corazón de piedra.
They took three locks of
her yellow hair,
Tomaron
tres mechones de su rubio pelo,
And with them strung the
harp so rare.
Y
con ellos ensartan el arpa.
They went into her
father's hall
Se
fueron al salón de su padre
To play the harp before
them all,
Para
tocar el arpa delante de todos:
But as they laid it on a
stone
Pero,
aunque ellos le pusieron encima una piedra
The harp began to play
alone.
El
arpa empezó a sonar solo.
The first string sang a
doleful sound:
La
primera cuerda cantó un sonido lastimero:
"The bride her
younger sister drowned."
"La
novia ahogó a la hermana menor."
The second string as that
they tried,
La
segunda cuerda como lo intentaron,
In terror sits the
black-haired bride.
The third string sang
beneath their bow,
La
tercera cuerda cantó bajo su arco,
"And surely now her
tears will flow…
"Y
les aseguro que ahora sus lágrimas fluirán...

Chris Rea - Tell me there's a heaven
The little
girl she said to me
La niña me dijo
What are
these things that I can see
¿Cuáles son esas cosas que puedo ver
Each night when I come home from school?
And mama
calls me in for tea.
Y mamá me llama para el té.
Oh every
night a baby dies
Oh cada noche un bebé muere
And every
night a mama cries
Y cada noche una mamá llora
What makes
those men do what they do
To make
that person black and blue
Para hacer esta persona negra y azul
Grandpa
says their happy now
El abuelo dice que ahora esta feliz
They sit
with God in paradise

With
angels' wings and still somehow

Papá dime que es así
So do I
tell her that it's true
Entonces, le digo que es verdad
That
there's a place for me and you
Que hay un lugar para mí y para ti
Where
hungry children smile and say
Donde los niños hambrientos sonrien y dicen
We
wouldn't have no other way
No tendríamos ninguna otra manera
That every
painful crack of bones
Que cada grieta dolorosa de los huesos
Is a step
along the way
Es un paso en el camino
Every
wrong done is a game plan
To that
great and joyful day
Para ese gran y alegre día
And I'm
looking at the father and the son
And I'm
looking at the mother and the daughter
Y estoy mirando a la madre y la hija
And I'm
watching them in tears of pain
And I'm
watching them suffer
Y yo los estoy viendo sufrir
Don't tell
that little girl
No le digas a esa niña
Tell me
Dime
Tell me
there's a heaven

that it's true

When she was just a girl
Cuando ella solo era una niña
she expected the world
ella se imaginaba el mundo
but it flew away from her
reach
pero este estaba fuera de su alcance
so she ran away in her sleep
and dream of
Para-para-paradise,
Para-para-paraíso,
Para-para-paradise, Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paraíso, Para-para-paraíso,
every time she closed her
eyes.
cada vez que ella cerraba sus ojos.
When she was just a girl
Cuando ella solo era una niña
she expected the world
ella se imaginaba el mundo
but it flew away from her
reach
pero este estaba fuera de su alcance
and the bullets catch in her
teeth,
y las balas atrapaba entre sus dientes,
life goes on, it gets so
heavy
la vida continua, y se vuelve pesada,
the wheel breaks the
butterfly,
la rueda destroza la mariposa,
every tear a waterfall,
cada lagrima una cascada,
in the night the stormy
night
en la noche, la noche tempestuosa
she’ll close her eyes
ella cerraba sus ojos,
in the night the stormy
night away
en la noche, la noche tempestuosa
she’d fly
ella volaba lejos
and dreams of
Para-para-paradise,
y sueños de Para-para-paraíso,
para-para-paradise, para-para-paradise
para-para-paraíso, para-para-paraíso
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh
She’d dream of
Para-para-paradise,
Ella sueña con el Para-para-paraíso,
para-para-paradise, para-para-paradise
para-para-paraíso, para-para-paraíso
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh
lalalalalalalalalalala
lalalalalalalalalalala
And so lying underneath
those stormy skies
Y así estirada bajo los cielos tormentosos
She’s say, “oh, ohohohoh
Ella dice, “ oh,ohohohoh
I know the sun must
set to rise”
amanecer de nuevo”
This could be
Para-para-paradise,
Este podría ser el Para-para-paraíso,
para-para-paradise, para-para-paradise

para-para-paraíso, para-para-paraíso

oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Este podría ser el Para-para-paraíso

The history of the Sandwich
1st Century BC
People used bread as plates. They put meat and
vegetables onto some bread and ate with their fingers. These were the first
open sandwiches, and they called them “trenchers”.
18th Century
The name “sandwich” first appeared. An Englishman,
John Montague (1718-1792), the Fourth Earl of *Sandwich, liked to eat and gamble
at London’s Beef Steak Club. Sometimes he stayed 24 hours at the gaming table.
He was hungry, but he didn’t want to stop gambling, so the chef from the club
put some beef between two pieces of bread, and he ate while he gambled. This
new meal became very fashionable with other men in the club, and they called it
the “sandwich” after the Earl.
*Sandwich is a town in the South of England.
19th Century
An American writer, Eliza Leslie, introduced
sandwiches to America. In 1837, she wrote a cookbook, “Directions for Cookery”.
In it she had a recipe for ham sandwiches: “Cut some thin slices of bread and
ham. Butter the bread and put the ham between two slices with some mustard. Eat
for lunch or supper”. Americans loved them.
20th - 21st Century
Sandwiches became very popular indeed. They
were easy to make and they were a wonderful, cheap, portable meal for workers
and school children.
1r siglo AC
